Sports Injuries – Diagnosis
There are two different categories of sports injuries, chronic and acute. An acute sports injury occurs suddenly and is accompanied by instant pain, bruising, and a decrease in the range of motion of the injured body part. Chronic sports injuries develop gradually and are accompanied by a slow build up of pain and/or discomfort over a series of weeks or months and weakness or inflammation in the affected area. While some acute sports injuries can be treated with the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) technique, some require additional attention in order to encourage proper healing.

Exceed Urgent Care can help with the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of acute sports injuries, including sprains and broken bones. Depending on the severity of the injury, we can also provide a referral to an orthopedic practice for further treatment.
Sprains are one of the most common sports injuries and occur as a result of overstretching or tearing of a ligament. Sprains are usually accompanied by the inability to use the joint in the affected area, pain, bruising, and/or swelling. Treatment of a sprain depends on the severity of the injury and the location of the sprain.
Another common sports injury is a strain, which occurs when a muscle or tendon is overstretched or torn. Swelling, pain, bruising, and inflammation typically occur at the site of a strain and you may also experience muscle spasms, cramping, or have difficulty moving. Similar to a sprain, the treatment for muscle and tendon strains depends on the severity of the injury and its location.
Exceed Urgent Care offers a variety of treatments for broken bones, including splinting & Ortho-Glass stabilization. We will assess the severity of the broken bone and recommend the appropriate treatment based on each case.
Some sports injuries require treatments beyond what we can provide at our urgent care facility. If this is the case, we will provide you with a referral to an orthopedic doctor who can provide you with further diagnosis and treatment.
